love happened ,a story by rose akpabio

**
He’d lived in the United States of America for
three years now, he’d gone there to further his
education and he was done with that, so he
decided to return to Nigeria.
He’d bumped into Barbie few weeks after he’d
arrived Nigeria, she’d grown more beautiful and
had added weight at the right places.
He had memories of their torrid love affair back
on campus, he knew what he did was wrong but
Sophia had betrayed him.
Sophia was Barbie’s sister and he’d grown to like
her because of her beautiful nature, she wasn’t
too attractive but she had a wonderful character,
but she’d cheated on him, Barbie had told him
about it.
She’d refused to have sex with him under the
guise of being a virgin but had spread her legs
easily for another guy. After hearing it from her
biological sister, he knew Barbie couldn’t tell
such expensive lies to him, he didn’t bother
confronting her as Barbie had made him swear
to keep it secret.
Instead, he’d broken up with her without giving
her any reason, he hated it when women played
him for a fool.
But that was in the past, he’d grown and become
responsible and he’d forgiven Sophia, he
wondered how she was faring now, he hoped to
see her one of these days before he returned to
the U.S to fight for citizenship.
He’d fixed a date with Barbie, he wanted to meet
her and revive old memories but something had
come up and he’d called to cancel, one thing
was for sure, she was going to be super mad at
him.
She hadn’t picked her calls, but he wouldn’t give
up, he decided to text her.
‘Lucky me’ Benet smiled, as he opened his
watsapp page, she was online.
BENET: Hi darling, I’m so sorry I stood you up, I
can explain
BARBIE: Not talking to you brute, do you know
how humiliated I felt? I dressed up for that date
you know.
BENET: I know, I am so sorry, I’ll make it up to
you I promise. He begged.
SOPHIA: Hmmm, I need a pair of new Gucci
shoes ASAP, can’t walk around in old ones
BENET: Okay, I would do something about that,
you know how much I love you Barbie, since you
opened up about Sophia and how she cheated on
me, I can’t fail to thank you enough.
SOPHIA: You don’t love me Benny, just get me
my shoes and we’re good
BENET: Okay, hands up, so when do I get to see
you again?
SOPHIA: When you get the shoes, you know I
hate it when you keep me waiting. I have to go
now, see you later.
BENET: Okay bye honey.
She’d logged out, he checked her profile picture
and smiled as he stared into her beautiful eyes.
‘I’ll do anything for you’ Benet flipped the phone
over and climbed into his bed for sleep.

‘Who’re you chatting with’? Oscar shifted closer
to her but she switched off her phone
immediately.
‘Oh, it’s my aunt Davina’ Barbie lied smoothly.
‘Nice, Sophia talks about her all the time, she
must be very good to you guys’ Oscar was aware
their parents had died.
‘Yea, she could be good when she isn’t nagging’
Barbie winked.
‘So, did you really mean what you said about
Sophia? Is she seeing another man’? Oscar
asked.
‘Why do we have to talk about Sophia all the
time’? Barbie sounded irritated.
‘I am sorry but I need to know the truth, or are
you just saying that so I’ll leave her and be with
you’? Oscar pressed on.
‘poo! That’s it, we’re done, how dare you think so
lowly of me’? Barbie rose to her feet angrily.
‘No, I didn’t mean it that way, I just want to be
sure, because she cried when she told me about
Benet, he’d hurt her real bad’ Oscar said.
‘I can’t believe this, why would I tell you lies?
Benet is in town as we speak, he is still seeing
Sophia, and don’t try asking her cause she’ll
deny it, can’t you see? I am the one for you, I am
the one who loves you, just love me back, Sophia
isn’t worth it’ Barbie turned and faced him.
‘How could she hurt me like this’? Oscar
wondered.
‘That’s what she does, Benet is the love of her
life’ Barbie replied.
‘I still cannot believe this’ Oscar insisted.
‘Really? Then I’ll find you proof’ Barbie packed
her things hurriedly and stormed out of his
house.
‘I didn’t mean it that way’ Oscar called after her
but she’d already gone.
‘Could this be true’? Oscar picked up his phone
and noticed he’d missed Sophia’s calls, he
decided to sleep on the issue.

‘What is my baby doing’? She’d woken up and
hadn’t felt Lekan by her side.
‘Something he loves doing’ Lekan dipped his
brush into the paint and drew on the canvas.
He’d always wanted to be an artist, but his
father hadn’t supported his dreams so he’d
dropped them and studied Electrical engineering
at the University.
‘I don’t know why you keep wasting your time,
how many Nigerians love to paint’? Eleona
scoffed, uknown to her, she’d hurt his feelings
real bad.
‘or even admire paintings’ she added as she
sipped from her mug.
‘Careful there Eleona’ he scowled at her, he
hated it when people tried to tear down his spirit,
maybe it was time to be alone.
‘What? I am being honest?’ she shrugged.
Anger filled him at her words, since she’d
stepped into his studio, he’d lost focus, he’d
been in a good mood when he’d woken up and
felt like working on something.
‘You know what? Pack your bags and get out of
my house’? he dropped his brush and turned to
her.
‘What’? Eleona widened her eyes.
‘You heard me, drop that mug, turn around, get
all your stuff and get the hell out of here’ Lekan
spoke through clenched teeth.
‘Excuse me? Why should I do that’? she was
taken aback by his rudeness.
‘Because your time in my life has expired’ Lekan
wiped his hands and walked towards her.
‘Are you breaking up on me? What’s this? Why
are you so rude and full of yourself’? she cursed.
‘I never asked you out Eleona, you forced
yourself on me, now, we had sex, it wasn’t that
great and you fart a lot while sleeping, you drool
when you wake, I’m tired of that’ he was getting
back at her.
‘What? I don’t drool and who doesn’t fart’? she
felt embarrassed.
‘Who cares? Now I want some space, so just
go’he turned his back on her.
‘You’ll call me back Lekan, I promise you that’
Eleona hissed and left to park her things.
‘Good riddance’ Lekan sighed.
Now he had the peace he wanted, he loved to
paint in a serene environment, he stared at the
canvas for minutes.
‘Damn her, I’ve forgotten what I was about to
paint’ he dropped the brush and walked towards
the window.
He lived in a storey building and he purposely
created his studio up because he loved to stare
down into the streets for inspiration.
‘You have a visitor sir’ Mrs Olaitan, his old
housekeeper informed him.
‘I’ll be down in five minutes’ Lekan replied feeling
empty.
‘I’ll be back for you I promise, I’ll be back’ He
pointed at the canvas and walked out.
Minutes later he was in the living room and he
was gladdened his lawyer had arrived, only at
the sight of his lawyer did he remember the
events of the night before.
He had totally forgotten what those two crazy
women did to his car.
‘Goodmorning Sir’ his lawyer rose to welcome
him.
‘Goodmorning Ade’ he greeted his young lawyer.
‘Sorry I shouldn’t have disturbed you, this case
isn’t totally worth it, two women pissed me off
last night and I texted you in the heat of anger’
he explained.
‘Oh, can I hear about the problem’ Ade asked.
‘Actually, now I think about it, I think I should
forget about that case, I just wanted to teach
them a lesson’ he replied.
‘What really happened sir’? Ade insisted.
‘Well, one of them bashed my car and the other
was quite the ass, she was being stubborn and
proud, so I told them they’d pay back by buying
me a new car’ Lekan explained.
‘Where are they now’? Ade asked.
‘I put them in cell, I think I should put a call
through, let them be released, it’s for the sake of
the Christmas turkey’ Lekan said.
‘Christmas Turkey’?Ade was confused.
‘Oh, you wouldn’t understand, sorry about that’
Lekan chuckled as he remembered the phrase
Eleona used to describe the fat lady that bashed
his car.
‘I don’t think you should let them go unpunished’
Ade said.
‘Why is that’? Lekan asked.
‘Well, no crime should go unpunished, you’ve
already brought in the police, you should let me
do my job’ he replied.
‘Well, we could go to the cell right now, from the
way they looked, I doubt they could even buy the
tire of my car’ Lekan frowned.
‘We’ll see about that’ Ade rose to his feet. Just
then Lekan’s housekeeper walked into the room
with an envelope.
‘Mr Lekan, Miss Eleona dropped something for
you’ the old woman handed him the envelope.
‘Thank you Madam, do well to prepare me
something spicy, I have a craving for something
peppery’ he instructed and opened the envelop.
‘I WOULD TELL THE WHOLE WORLD YOU HAVE
A SMALL DICK’ He read the words and burst out
laughing, why in the world would she leave him a
message like this? He was very endowed in the
groin area and he knew she was just doing this
because he’d humiliated her.
‘I hope you didn’t read my love letter madam’
Lekan smiled at the woman who had this
mischievous grin on her face.
‘No sir, that would be quite unprofessional’ she
replied.
‘Good, Ade let’s go’
‘What a young man’ the old woman smiled.
She’d worked with the Olaoluwa family for many
years, Lekan had grown eating from her palms,
though he’d changed and become so rude and
haughty, he wasn’t always this way, his problems
started when his biological mother started having
mental problems and she fled the house one day.
His father the governor had brought another boy
home one day, telling his wife of many years that
he’d another son outside of wedlock. The boy in
question was older than Lekan, his mother
couldn’t take it and they began having problems
in their marriage.
She fled from the house when Lekan was only
six years old and that was when his father had
married the other woman.
‘Poor child’ Mrs Olaitan shook her head sadly,
many people didn’t know that story, but she did
and she would talk to Lekan one day.
