Lonely heart ,a story by bibijay
Chapter two
Bianca was almost at her house when she felt a
hand on her shoulder. She let out a blood
curdling scream as she whirled around, her arms
raised to protect her face. She slowly opened
her eyes and found her neighbour, Tracy staring
at her. She was a heavy set black American with
the temper of a mule. But she could be sweet
natured when she wanted. Bianca sighed and
lowered her hands.
“What’s up Tracy?” She said.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Are you
alright?” Tracy asked.
“Yea sure. I’m alright”
“I was wondering if you’d like to hang out with
my girls and I tonight. You know, girl’s night.”
She said.
“That’s…um….it sound like fun but I’m sorry I
can’t tonight.” Bianca apologized, hoping Tracy
would get the message and stop pestering her to
socialise.
“Alright,” She said. “Maybe next weekend?”
“Yea sure, thanks.” Bianca readily agreed, hastily
walking away.
She took a long breath when her apartment
came in view. She walked towards the door, her
hands trembling as she slipped out a key from
her Jean. I should have been the one in that
casket, she thought. Life wasn't fair, she thought
as hot tears trickled down her cheeks. She
almost jumped out of her skin when her phone
went off. It took her a second before she
realized that it was her phone. She slipped it out
of her pocket, she had gotten a reminder from
the old people's home about Mj's mother. Mj was
her only son and child. Now that he was gone,
Bianca tried to be there for her. She locked the
door and took a quick shower. She pulled her
hair into a bun and walked into her kitchen. She
took out everything she needed to make a
chocolate cake while humming one of her songs.

Bianca hated hospitals. Just the thought of
walking into one gave her migraines. The smell
of drugs, nurses going up and down, the starchy
green overall and everything else nauseated her.
Nurses were always going up and doing but yet
doing nothing. She had begged them, cried her
eyes out while hanging onto their arms that they
should save her husband. But what did they do?
They had simply told her that he was dead. She
parked her old car and picked up the cake beside
her. She walked into the building with
determination, her shoulders were tensed and
her lips was pursed. She would be strong and
make this day remarkable for Mrs. Faraday. She
knocked on her door and walked into the hospital
room. The old lady was laid up in her bed in a
bright floral gown. Lucy, Mrs. Faraday's nurse
gave Bianca smile.
"Hello Lucy," Bianca said.
"Hello Bianca," Lucy said, smiling. " Oh you
brought us a cake!"
"Yea," Bianca said, walking towards the bed to
place a kiss on the old woman's hair. She
smelled of lemon shampoo. Bianca was glad her
nurse was taking good care of her. She turned to
Lucy, giving her a warm smile.
“Happy birthday mom,” Bianca said, " I baked you
a cake,"
Mrs. Faraday beamed at her, pulling Bianca's
arm to her bony chest.
” Where’s my Michael?’’ She asked, " Why isn't
he here with you? Lucy didn't you tell me that
boy of mine would be here today?"
“He…um” Bianca broke off, unsure of what to
say. This was one of those days she forgot about
everything including the fact that Mj was gone.
Bianca wondered if it was a blessing or a curse
that Mrs. Faraday had lost touch with reality.
Bianca placed the cake on a table and ran out of
the room.
“Its’s time for your nap Mrs. Fay” Lucy said,
"After your nap I will read you a story and you
can have a slice of your birthday cake." She
tucked the sheet around her and went in search
of Bianca.
Bianca couldn't forgive herself. Even though
everyone said it wasn't her fault, she knew she
had caused Mj's death. She had forced him to go
to a grocery store late into the night. She heard
a knock on the toilet door and held her breath.
"Are you alright in there?" Lucy asked.
“Mrs. Faraday,” Laura said, “I need to know you
are alright, please answer me.”
“Yea” Bianca replied throatily.” I’m fine.”
She opened the door and walked out.
“Tears won’t bring him back.” She said,” Neither
will it take away the guilt. It will only give you
migraines.” She said. “I felt the same way when
my son, Trey died. But in the end I realized that I
only have to forgive myself. If I hadn’t sent him
away the night he came home, dead drunk as
usual he might still be alive today. Forgive
yourself Bianca, forgive yourself, "
“Thank you, please will you make sure that Mrs.
Faraday is properly cared for," Bianca said." I
can't face her in this state,"
“You are welcome and I understand. " She
replied and walked out.
